8 Metaverse Jobs in The Near Future
The metaverse could be a reality sooner than later, thanks to the efforts of various companies that are competing to be the leaders of the new “universe.” The metaverse will be a fully immersive digital world for all of us, and promises to deliver exciting possibilities. With Facebook going all in to make the metaverse a reality, and many other top tech companies joining the space, it is safe to assume the race to the metaverse is on. With new technology comes new opportunities. This piece will explore a few jobs that are likely to arise from the coming of the metaverse.
1. Metaverse Research Scientist
Research scientists in AR and VR are already a staple of top universities and major tech companies. As metaverse becomes a widely accepted idea, you can expect to see more ads for such individuals within the space. Some experts believe that the role of these scientists will be to build something akin to the “theory of everything”, wherein the entire world is visible and actionable digitally, like in the Ready Player One movie. This architecture will be the foundation upon which all other use cases will be built; games, adverts, quality control in factories, connected health, DeFi apps, etc. It is an insanely complex undertaking where candidates will need to build and then scale prototypes using technology at the confluence of computer vision algorithms in 3D.

2. Metaverse Stylist
People will exist on the metaverse using avatars that reflect themselves to some extent. With so many metaverse companies creating custom avatars and AR clothing, a metaverse stylist is likely to be a very in-demand job.
3. Metaverse Asset Advisor
With the explosion of NFTs, a metaverse asset advisor will likely be one of the most sought-after jobs. Just like financial advisors today, these individuals will offer advice on which assets one can put their money in on the metaverse.
4. Metaverse Tour Guide
Given that there will be an endless number of possible worlds to explore, you will probably have to rely on a metaverse tour guide to ensure you do not miss out on anything. The tour guide will jump you from one environment to another, and offer you insider knowledge on the rich history of the platform you are in, all with the goal of helping you unlock exclusive experiences.
5. Metaverse Marketer
The role of the metaverse marketer will be to launch complex and creative advertising campaigns that blur the lines between the physical and digital worlds. Just like the recently created “Chief Meme Officer” role that requires someone who has their pulse on the fast-moving internet culture and can strategize with a company on how to best connect their brand with their audience, the role of the metaverse marketer will be similar but within a new universe. To build a brand, you will likely need to purchase billboard space in a virtual world, engage with fans on a platform such as Discord, or even collaborate with Jadu or The Fabricant to create virtual assets.
6. Metaverse Lawyer
The recent NFT boom has opened the door for digital artists, creators, musicians, athletes etc. The boom has also accelerated another industry - metaverse law. With so much movement happening in the metaverse and with alternative asset classes, it is clear the legal landscape needs to adapt just as fast.
7. Metaverse Planner
Ideas may come to us cheaply, but executing them is expensive. Once there is a working metaverse, the ability to plan and implement all manner of functionalities into a fully virtual world will be essential for most companies. This is where the metaverse planner will come in. As company leaders set a vision and strategy for creating and growing their metaverses, the planner will need to drive a strategic portfolio of opportunities, from proof-of-concept to pilot to deployment. To achieve these goals, the planner will have to identify market opportunities, build business cases, influence engineering roadmaps, develop key metrics, etc.
8. Metaverse Safety Manager
The internet, as it exists today, is not quite safe, and anyone that thinks that metaverse will be any different might be kidding themselves. Safety managers will have to provide guidance and oversight regarding privacy, in-world ID verification, safe headgear, adequate sensors etc. Their input will be required during design, validation, mass production stages, ensuring our digital world is safe and meets or exceeds applicable regulatory safety requirements etc., all without sacrificing cutting-edge functionality or design or cutting into revenues.
